Paz Vega was born in Seville, Andalucía, Spain, and takes her stage name from her grandmother. She made her big break in 7 Vidas, also in 1999. The series was billed as a Spanish Friends and went on to become one of the country’s best-loved domestic sitcoms. Her career is shorter than that of Penelope Cruz, but she can still follow in her footsteps!

At 16, Paz left school and patiently waited for the prestigious Centro Andaluz de Teatro acting school to accept her. After two years at the acting school and another two studying journalism, Paz moved to Madrid, where she sought fame. She changed her name to Paz Vega (her grandmother's last name) and worked in bars while auditioning for every acting job she could.

Paz's first big jobs came on TV, where she appeared in three episodes of the Spanish series Menudo es mi padre, and in two other series, Mas que amigos and Companeros. In 1999, Paz got her first major movie role in Zapping, in which she played a hot sex-loving vixen who snagged another woman's husband. That same year, she had a minor part in Sobrevivire (I Will Survive), which got people noticing her.

Paz then returned to television with the career-making role of Laura in the series, 7 vidas. It was this role that endeared her to all of Spain. Filmmaker Mateo Gil liked Paz so much that he gave her a major part in his movie Nadie conoce a nadie (Nobody Knows Anybody, 1999). As she juggled TV and movies, she quickly learned the inner workings of the film industry.

Movie director Julio Medem saw her potential and asked Vega to leave her TV role to dedicate herself to his new project. His film would be provocative, steamy and sensual, so he needed just the right actress. In 2001, Lucia y el sexo (Sex and Lucia) hit theaters. It told the story, in graphic and lurid detail, of an innocent girl who slowly discovers her sexuality. Paz appeared nude, acting with her whole body in a gush of sensuality. Sex and Lucia became an international hit and won Paz a Goya, Spain's biggest movie award, for Best New Actress.

With the success of Sex and Lucia, Vega was courted by the biggest names in the film industry. Spain's most important director, Pedro Almodovar, gave her a part in his award-winning film Hable con ella (Talk to Her, 2002). Soon after, she was seen in the musical romantic comedy, El otro lado de la cama (The Other Side of the Bed, 2002).

After two more movies, including a rendition of Carmen in 2003, Paz started being coveted abroad. James L. Brooks, of The Simpsons and As Good as It Gets, signed her for his new directing project, a comedy called Spanglish, with Adam Sandler and Tea Leoni. This movie will no doubt raise her profile in the U.S. and she will hopefully be seen in more American movies. After Spanglish, Paz can be seen in 2005's Un angel en la oscuridad in the pipeline.

Irán replaced Adriana Nieto, who left the series on bad terms late into the show's production. In 2001Irán made a special role in the telenovela Aventuras en el Tiempo.

In 2002 Irán appeared in the soap opera Clase 406 and the film El Tigre de Santa Julia, which was a big success. In 2003 Irán starred in Amar otra vez, in which she played the protagonist, under the production of Lucero Suárez. This melodrama was released in January of 2004 in the United States and in May of the same year in Mexico. During the previous year, Irán formed part of Alborada, a soap opera by Carla Estrada, as Catalina Escobar, sister of the protagonic role, played by Lucero.

In 2006 Iran was featured in two Mexican films: "Amor Xtremo" with a protagonist role, and "Efectos Secundarios", in special participation as Gabriela. In summer 2006, Iran was invited to form part of the Mexican reality show Bailando por la Boda de Mis Sueños, with her partner Romeo. In September of 2006, Iran made a photoshoot for Max Magazine, which is characterized for its revealing pictorials featuring popular actresses, singers, and female models. Later in May, 2007 she made another photoshoot for "H" magazine, and also in July, Iran appeared topless in H Extremo, which is the uncensored version of "H".

For her upcoming projects, Irán is planning to return to the music industry with brand new songs by Volován, for the soundtrack of the motion picture Victorio. "Women who seek the title of Miss Universe are driven by their desires to open for themselves new opportunities in the world of acting and entertainment," Acirema Alayeto, president of Miss Latin America Organization, told reporters.

Each contestant was judged in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown and interview.

For the past two weeks, the women have been touring the various islands and participating in preliminary legs of the competition including the swimsuit presentation in Grand Bahama, a costume presentation, a fashion showcase featuring local designs and fabrics and a state auction dinner in New Providence.

The contestants have also toured other Bahamian islands, including Grand Bahama, Bimini, Exuma, Eleuthera and Abaco, visiting landmarks and posing for photographs.

As Hurricane Bill neared last week, several contestants expressed worries about their safety and the prospects for the competition, but the storm's path passed far away from the islands.

The pageant was watched by an estimated worldwide viewing audience of approximately one billion people.

In spite of being many other children actors on the show, her role was of a main character. She played "Mili" till 1997 and once again in 2001.

Her fame continued growing after her first stint at Chiquititas, and, in 1998, she participated in Verano del '98 (Summer of '98), a teen -orientedsoap opera that was equally famous in Argentina. She played the role of Violeta, which was replayed by the Argentine television network in 2005.

In 1999, Cherry was given her first opportunity to star in a show, playing Lucia Escobar, the leading female character in Cabecita (Small Head).

Two important events happened in Cherry's career during 2001: She was recalled to play Mili once again in Chiquititas, and she made her feature film debut, in a movie named Rodrigo, la Pelicula (Rodrigo, the Movie).

Agustina Cherry participated as Gisela Vargas in Canal 13's Mil Millones (A Thousand Million), made in 2002, and as Anita in 2003's Son amores (It's Just Love). That same year, she modeled for a calendar published by Caras magazine.

During 2004, Cherry played Shamira in another major Canal 13 hit, Los Pensionados (loosely translated to The Pension Receivers), and as Angela Capello in Hombres de Honor (Men of Honor).

In 2005, Cherry was linked romantically to Nicolas Cabre, former boyfriend of fellow ex-"Chiquititas" actress Celeste Cid.

In 2007 she's starring in the soap Mujeres de Nadie (Women of Nobody). The role was originally for Marcela Klobooster, who also starred in Chiquititas, but she couldn't accept it. Mujeres de Nadie is doing well on its afternoon slot at Canal 13.
